Computer repairs: Independent services the way to go, says Which
Which, the UK’s most respected consumer watchdog, says independent computer repair businesses are far better value than chain store operatives.
The news comes following a damning report in The Sun newspaper. The report stated that on average, customers were being charged £260 more than necessary – and that waiting times were significantly increased when chain store repair services were used.
Which sent several secret shoppers to the computer chains, including dealers such as Currys, PC world and iSmash. They discovered that customers were paying over the odds for parts and labour, and in one well-known dealership, there was a waiting list of six weeks for the replacement of an SSD drive. This is a simple repair that can usually be carried out with minimal fuss by an experienced technician.
The report also discovered that diagnostics reports were highly priced – especially in London dealerships. Furthermore, customers were discouraged from carrying out their own diagnostics, which would have significantly reduced the overall prices they were charged.
Independent repair services provide the best computer repair
As computer repair specialists, this is something we know very well. But it’s always nice to have it validated by a source as reputable as Which. Independent computer repair services rely on good customer service and recommendations to maintain their client base. It’s essential that repair times as kept short, often because a work computer that is not functional, can cost a small business a lot of money. Therefore, many independent repair services provide a fast repair option for a nominal extra charge.
Replacement computer parts
Another reason why independent computer repair services offer customers more, is that we are willing to shop around for the best deals on parts. Large chain stores usually have set partnerships that charge a specific rate. As indie operators, we can offer customers the choice of premium, mid range or even in some cases, re-conditioned parts for their computers.
We repair older computers
The world of computer development is very fast. That means a computer built five years ago, might require a replacement part that is no longer manufactured. That’s when our knowledge of reconditioned parts and the second-hand market comes in handy. We can almost always acquire exactly what you want and need.
We care about e-waste
And we actively help prevent it by repairing older computers and keeping them out of landfills. Got an Apple Mac from 2011? No problem! We can upgrade it, repair it, replace parts, give it a new screen – and whole new lease of life. There’s no need whatsoever to consign it to the e-waste scrap heap. In fact, we consider it our moral duty to also dispose of ethically, of any parts that can’t be recycled. So you can feel good about your decision to use our services.
We keep costs down
It’s essential to us that our customers are happy – and will recommend us time and time again. Because of that, it’s in our interests to be helpful and provide a value for money service. At Darcy Consulting, we will even collect and drop off your repaired computer to your home or place of work for absolutely no extra charge. Think about that for a moment.
