How to prevent laptop damage
How to prevent laptop damage: A laptop is an investment, which means that you are going to want to take care of it and make sure that it lasts as long as possible. When you’ve invested so much money in a computer like a MacBook Pro, it’s important you follow some guidelines on making sure it stays in good condition.
Not only that, but MacBooks retain their value. At some point you may decide to upgrade your Apple Mac and sell your older computer on the second hand market. The better condition it’s in, the more money you’ll make on it. So, maintaining your Macbook Pro well, is also protecting your investment. There are plenty of things that can go wrong with your laptop. However, if you take proper care of it and avoid damaging it as much as possible, then we are sure that it will stand the test of time.
To help you, we have put together our top tips on how to prevent laptop damage.
Try and keep your laptop out of the sun
Sunshine is great for us – and we crave it at this time of year, but it is not always the best thing for your laptop. So, if you want to protect your laptop as much as possible, then you are going to need to keep it out of the sun. This isn’t always possible if you ever need to take it outside to work, but you should aim to sit in the shade to give your laptop a rest from the sunshine on it. Don’t leave your laptop in a hot car either, for example. While it might not occur to you to remove your MacBook, think about it like this: the hotter the screen gets, the more vulnerable it becomes. So, whenever possible, take it with you instead – and keep it in the shade.
Avoid temperature extremes
Similar to sunshine, extreme weather and low temperatures can have an impact on your laptop, more than you may realise. It can be hard to try and avoid extreme temperatures, especially if you are in an area that is prone to them, but if you can, then try and stay away from places that are extremely cold or extremely hot. You should also avoid putting your laptop too close to a heating source in your home.
Invest in a laptop bag
Like hot weather, cold weather has an equally bad effect on tech. Sometimes, when the temperature is too low, computers just stop functioning altogether. Protect your MacBook. The most basic way to protect your laptop is to invest in a laptop bag. A laptop bag will allow you to carry around your laptop with ease, it will help to protect it against any rain, and it will also help if it does happen to get bumped at all. Not only this, but a good laptop bag will make it all the easier to carry everything that you need around with you. Such as your USB drives and chargers too.
A good laptop bag will also ensure your MacBook Pro maintains it’s good looks. A dinged up case, even if the hardware is good, won’t do you any favours should you ever decide to sell it on.
Keep it away from pets
Okay – we know this sounds crazy. And it’s not just because your cat can’t be trusted around your computer. Although, some cats we know definitely can’t… We’ve been there and done the repairs… You actually need to keep your pets out of your home office because their dander (skin flakes and pet hairs – yucko) are really bad for computer equipment. Just recently we received in a desktop computer that had a blown motherboard. When we opened it up, we realised why. The fans on the computer had become clogged with pet hair. The terminal had overheated and the motherboard went entirely kaput. Now, according to the computer owner, the pet cat in question wasn’t even in the room that much (though a cat can never be trusted at their word). It just goes to show how elements you don’t even think about can seriously damage your computer and end up costing you a lot of money. In the end, this customer decided to buy a new computer. It would have cost us the same to fix it as to buy new. Ouch! Bad kitty!
Keep an eye on it
Now, we know this may sound a little obvious, but in order to make sure that your laptop is in the best condition possible, you are going to need to make sure that you keep an eye it. Be aware of how it should “normally” sound and perform. That way, if there is a strange noise or it has slowed down more than it usually does, then you know that you should perhaps get it checked over.
There are plenty of things that you can do to try and take proper care of your laptop, however, from time to time, despite your best efforts, something may go wrong.
