MacBook battery-saving tips: One of the great things about owning a MacBook is that it is known to have a pretty good battery life; and, thanks to advancements in the technology used making them, this just gets better and better.

However, that said, over time and with regular use, even the high performing MacBook battery can start to show signs of fatigue. You will notice that as time goes on, you will need to charge your MacBook more and more frequently, which isn’t always the end of the world if you are near a plug socket, but can still be pretty frustrating.

The good news for you is that there are plenty of things that you can do to make sure that your MacBook lasts as long as possible for as long as possible.

Check the condition

It is a good idea to check the condition of your actual battery. This can give you some clues as to why your battery isn’t working quite as it should. This is relatively easy to do. To do this you need to hold the option key on the keyboard and then click on the battery icon at the top of the menu bar.

There are four things that can be highlighted here.

  • Normal- your battery is working as it should
  • Replace soon- your battery is currently working normally, but is holding less charge
  • Replace now- the battery is functioning normally but is holding a significantly lower amount of charge then it would when it was new
  • Service battery- the battery is not functioning as it should, which you will be able to notice. It is time to take it in for a service

Dim your display

Your display is going to be the main draw on your batteries resource, which means that if you want to make sure that your battery lasts as long as possible, you need to dim things down. You should try to aim for your display to be at a level that doesn’t hurt your eyes, full brightness will be the biggest drain, so, anything below full is going to be helpful to your battery.

Stay up to date

It might not sound like a fix, but staying up to date with the current MacOS updates is a great way to ensure that your MacBook battery works as well as it should. There is a box that you can tick within the software update section of the system preferences section on your MacBook which will ensure that your MacBook automatically updates when new software comes out.

Turn off Bluetooth

Another thing that could be draining your battery is your Bluetooth. If you are not linking your MacBook to a Bluetooth mouse or speaker when you are using it, then it makes sense that you don’t need your Bluetooth on right at that moment. You will be surprised by the impact that this can have on your battery performance.

As you can see, there is plenty that you can do to ensure that the battery life on your MacBook performs as you need it to. If you do notice that things are still not working well, then it might be time for you to take your MacBook in for a service and see if there are any repairs that can help matters.
