Tips for new Apple Mac users
Tips for new Apple Mac users: Moving from a Window computer to an Apple Mac is a big leap. You may think that they work much the same (and of course there are similarities between the two) but, in the most part, there are huge differences.
It can take a little time to get to grips with the MacOS way of life, but there are ways that you can make your life that little bit easier. One is to keep in mind these top things that you are going to want to know before you really dive in and embrace Apple in your tech life.
Tip 1) Back up your data to your new Apple Mac
Just like any other laptop or mobile device, it is important that you think about how you want to protect your all important videos, pictures, films and documents. You can save these locally onto your Mac, but it is also a good idea to think about how you are going to back them up. The simplest way to do this is to have an external hard drive, which you plug in on a weekly basis, downloading all of your files and keeping them safe and secure. MacOS has an in-built transfer system that you can use to move your files, this is known as Time Machine and prove hugely useful for you.
Tip 2) Apple Mac keyboard shortcuts
If you have used a Windows based laptop for some time, then you will have got used to the keyboard shortcuts that you use in order to get things done as quickly as possible. Rather unsurprisingly Mac has its own shortcuts that you can use to get where you need to be, but, they are not the same as those that you would use on a laptop. It is going to take some time to get to grips with how to best navigate using keyboard shortcuts, so don’t expect to be a pro straight away.
Tip 3) Learn the Apple Mac trackpad
Another thing that you are going to need to learn how to use (and then master) on a Mac is the trackpad. The trackpad has been designed in such a way that it makes things as easy as possible to click on, scroll through and interact with. A MacOS trackpad is similar to other models, but the capabilities of it go much further down under the surface than you may realise and it might actually prove a whole lot more useful for you then you could ever hope.
Tips for new Apple Mac users
These are just some of the key things to keep in mind when it comes to using a Mac for the first time. You also have to think about key features such as The Dock, The Touch Bar and even features such as Spotlight. We are sure that with a bit of time and practice, you will be able to master the basics and before long you will be fully versed in the world of Apple and what it can do for you.
